Our first guest will be Sergiu P. Pașca (@PascaStanford) from Stanford University who recently published an impressive series of seminal papers on brain assembloids.

Dr Sergiu Pasca’s laboratory explores the biological underpinnings of brain development under normal and pathological conditions with cellular models generated by reprogramming technologies. Dr Pasca is a pioneer in developing 3D brain-region specific organoids and cellular models of neuropsychiatric disorders from stem cells. His laboratory used instructive signals in 3D cultures to develop regionalized organoids, and pioneered the controlled assembly of 3D cultures to build circuits in brain assembloids. He applied these technologies to gain insights into the molecular mechanisms of genetic and environmental disorders of the developing brain.
He’s a faculty member at Stanford University where is also the Uytengsu Director of the Stanford Brain Organogenesis Program.
Dr Pasca was named a Visionary in Medicine and Science by New York Times and Nature Medicine’s featured Physician-Scientists.
The pioneering nature of his work has been recognized by a number of awards and distinctions such as the C.J. Herrick Award in Neuroanatomy, American Association of Anatomy and the Vilcek Award for Creative Biomedical Promise (shared with Feng Zhang and Polina Anikeva).
